Welcome :)
In the mid-19th century, Cabourg, in Calvados, was a simple fishing and farming village. The visionary project of a Parisian businessman, Henri Durand-Morimbau, transformed it into a popular seaside resort. The Caen architect he commissioned, Paul Leroux, designed the town in the shape of a Greco-Roman theater. The resort, inaugurated in 1855, quickly experienced rapid expansion, driven by the seaside bathing craze and boosted by the creation of the Société des Bains de Mer, intended to accommodate spa guests and vacationers.
Wealthy buyers and well-known figures purchased superb villas there, which can still be admired. The delightfully old-fashioned Cabourg Casino retains all the charm of the 1900s. Facing the sea, the legendary Grand Hôtel, made famous by Marcel Proust, who stayed there regularly and booked a room between 1907 and 1914, exudes a charming, old-France atmosphere.
Overlooking one of Normandy's most beautiful beaches, stretching over four kilometers, the Marcel Proust pedestrian promenade reveals the city's Belle Époque architectural universe to visitors. Admire the beautiful residences and numerous flowerbeds. Cabourg is also a doubly listed floral resort, teeming with parks and gardens. The city's floral expertise is showcased each spring during the Garden in Bloom weekend.
